family\u2019s crypto platform, World Liberty Financial, has filed for a national trust banking charter to accelerate the institutional adoption of its USD1 stablecoin.<\/p>\n<p>World Liberty <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesswire.com\/news\/home\/20260107876750\/en\/World-Liberty-Financial-Announces-that-WLTC-Holdings-LLC-has-Submitted-an-Application-for-a-National-Trust-Bank-Charter-to-Issue-and-Custody-USD1-Stablecoins?feedref=JjAwJuNHiystnCoBq_hl-bV7DTIYheT0D-1vT4_bKFzt_EW40VMdK6eG-WLfRGUE1fJraLPL1g6AeUGJlCTYs7Oafol48Kkc8KJgZoTHgMu0w8LYSbRdYOj2VdwnuKwa\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a> on Wednesday that its subsidiary WLTC Holdings filed with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) for a charter that would allow it to issue, custody and convert its stablecoin in-house, rather than rely on third-party providers such as BitGo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstitutions are already using USD1 for cross-border payments, settlement, and treasury operations,\u201d said World Liberty CEO Zach Witkoff. \u201cA national trust charter will allow us to bring issuance, custody, and conversion together as a full-stack offering under one highly regulated entity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>World Liberty\u2019s trust bank would allow fee-free minting and redemption of USD1, as well as converting between US dollars and USD1, while enabling it to approvals<\/a> for banking charters in December to Circle, Ripple, Fidelity Digital Assets, BitGo and Paxos, signaling the regulator\u2019s willingness to expand crypto services into TradFi.<\/p>\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\">Comptroller of the Currency Jonathan Gould said at the time that \u201cnew entrants into the federal banking sector are good for consumers, the banking industry and the economy [as] they provide access to new products, services and sources of credit to consumers, and ensure a dynamic, competitive and diverse banking system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><template data-ct-widget=\"buzzsprout\" data-buzzsprout-podcast-id=\"2040516\" data-buzzsprout-episode-id=\"18304599\"><\/template><\/p>\n<p>The OCC and World Liberty could face <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/senate-democrats-demand-answers-on-trump-cz-pardon\">increased scrutiny<\/a> with a banking charter, as some lawmakers have raised concerns about President Donald Trump\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/democrats-demand-us-treasury-reports-trump-crypto-ventures\">potential conflicts of interest<\/a> in World Liberty and his ties to the World Liberty, <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/trump-pardons-binance-founder-cz\">as he pardoned<\/a> Binance founder Changpeng Zhao after <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/binance-world-liberty-financial-stablecoin\">reportedly cutting deals<\/a> that helped the Trumps\u2019 platform.<\/p>\n<p>Witkoff reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/finance\/currencies\/world-liberty-flagship-in-trumps-crypto-fleet-seeks-a-u-s-banking-license-72cca502\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a> that World Liberty structured a trust company \u201cto avoid conflicts of interest,\u201d noting that Trump and his family wouldn\u2019t serve as executives or exercise day-to-day control of the
