The event will mark the sixth roundtable focused on issues <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/sec-4-more-crypto-roundtables-trading-custody-tokenization-defi\" title=\"null\">related to digital assets<\/a> at the commission\u2019s Washington, D.C., offices since the departure of former SEC Chair Gary Gensler.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnderstanding recent developments in privacy-protecting tools will assist the SEC and other financial regulators as we work on policy solutions in the crypto space,\u201d said Peirce.<\/p>\n<p><template data-ct-widget=\"buzzsprout\" data-buzzsprout-podcast-id=\"2040516\" data-buzzsprout-episode-id=\"17793750\"><\/template><\/p>\n<p>The crypto-focused roundtable events, which include a <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/sec-crypto-task-force-10-roundtables-across-us\" title=\"null\">series of 10 meetings<\/a> across the US starting in August and running through December, come as the SEC is considering proposed rule changes that could significantly impact market participants. <\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, the commission proposed \u201ccertain exemptions and safe harbors\u201d related to the offer and sale of crypto assets and modifying \u201cbroker-dealer financial responsibility rules,\u201d <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/sec-revamp-crypto-rules-proposed-agenda\" title=\"null\">lessening the burden<\/a> on US-operating crypto companies.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Related: <\/strong><\/em><a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/nasdaq-asks-sec-for-rule-change-to-trade-tokenized-stocks\" title=\"null\"><em><strong>Nasdaq asks SEC for rule change to trade tokenized stocks<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Establishing clarity on digital assets?<\/h2>\n<p>Since January, the SEC and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) \u2014 the two primary financial regulators in the US \u2014 have appeared to soften their approach to enforcement actions and rules affecting crypto companies, by dropping several investigations and lawsuits. <\/p>\n<p>The CFTC leadership now consists solely of Acting Chair Caroline Pham, who <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cftc.gov\/PressRoom\/PressReleases\/9104-25\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"null\">said in August<\/a> that the agency would follow the White House\u2019s lead on crypto policy.<\/p>\n<p><iframe width=\"100%\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UTRgKjIcvck?start=\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
