Move targets fentanyl precursor materials smuggled into US, as well as tax loopholes

NEW YORK — Duty-free shipping to the U.S. for low-value commercial packages will be suspended for all countries on Aug. 29, the White House said Wednesday.

The pause on the “de minimis” exemption is aimed at combating what the President Donald Trump’s administration frames as evasion of duties and as shipments of synthetic opioids.
