HONG KONG — The falling out between U.S. President Donald Trump and once-close ally Elon Musk has left questions over the future of the tech billionaire’s business empire, including in China, where his electric vehicle maker Tesla faces a brutal price war.
Tensions between the two men exploded in public view earlier this month when Musk slammed Trump’s “big, beautiful” budget bill for swelling the national debt. Trump threatened to cut federal contracts with Musk’s companies, including SpaceX. Musk escalated the spat by claiming that Trump was named in files related to deceased financier and registered sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and said that he should be impeached.
