BANGKOK — Paetongtarn Shinawatra appeared at a royal palace in Bangkok on Thursday for the oath-taking ceremony of Thailand’s new cabinet, which was approved earlier this week.
But Paetongtarn did not stand in front of King Maha Vajiralongkorn as prime minister. Instead, she was in the second row behind Deputy Prime Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit, who is acting as caretaker prime minister. Suspended as premier, Paetongtarn took the oath for her lesser role as culture minister. Thus, the country’s reshuffled cabinet began without a proper prime minister.
