TOKYO — Japanese shipping company NYK Line has obtained an industry body’s approval for a proposed water-based recovery system for rockets, aiming to spend the next two years working on technical designs before conducting field testing in fiscal 2028.
The company, officially known as Nippon Yusen, met with parties including Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, which is handling the rocket technology side of the project, earlier this month to discuss using ships for soft landings at sea.
