TOKYO — With Japan’s ruling coalition facing the possibility of losing a majority in Sunday’s upper house election, the outcome could force Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba to expand the alliance to advance policies or resign outright if his party loses big.
Ishiba is expected to hold a press conference on Monday on the election results, during which he could mention stepping down. There are three possible scenarios for the prime minister.
