WASHINGTON — The Trump administration will press allies like Japan, South Korea and the Netherlands to comply more with U.S. export controls on China, preventing Beijing from accessing cutting-edge semiconductors, chipmaking equipment and software, a top Commerce Department official told Congress on Thursday.
Efforts to align export control policies with allies and partners such as Japan and the Netherlands, have been “incomplete,” Jeffrey Kessler, undersecretary of commerce for industry and security, said in testimony to the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s South and Central Asia Subcommittee.
