NEW DELHI — India’s air conditioner makers are struggling to keep up with a rapid rise in demand driven by the country’s increasingly hot summers, as reliance on China is leading to shortages of key components.
Companies have seen large supply gaps as consumers scramble to secure air conditioners amid severe heat waves, which are being made more likely and more intense by human-induced climate change. In the case of Daikin, demand exceeded supply by 20% last year.
