TOKYO — Russia’s and China’s recent friendliness with the Taliban interim government in Afghanistan, intended to reap security and economic benefits, may mark a turning point for the Eurasian continent.
On July 3, a white flag with the Islamic declaration of faith — the “national flag” of the Taliban — flew from a balcony of the Afghan Embassy in Moscow as embassy staff celebrated Russia officially recognizing the Afghan government for the first time in the world.
