UTSUNOMIYA, Japan — A 150-year-old hotel in the historic Japanese town of Nikko is planning a makeover in a bid to lure more business from the waves of overseas tourists heading into the country.
Established in 1873, Nikko Kanaya Hotel is the oldest resort hotel still running in Japan, but currently only around 10% of its guests are travelers from abroad.
