The total value secured across all layer-2s currently stands at $45 billion, down 17% over the past 12 months, <a href=\"https:\/\/l2beat.com\/scaling\/summary\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">according<\/a> to L2Beat.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/eth-price-metric-flashes-buy-signal-after-3-years-of-seller-dominance\">Ethereum<\/a> network activity has surged this month following the Fusaka upgrade in December, which dramatically reduced gas fees. Source: <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/tokenterminal\/status\/2014347813404963244\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/x.com\/tokenterminal\/status\/2014347813404963244\"><em>Token Terminal<\/em><\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Address poisoning attacks spike<\/h2>\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\">Security researcher Andrey Sergeenkov <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/address-poisoning-attack-adding-record-ethereum-network-activity-says-researcher\">said on Monday<\/a> that the spike in network activity could be attributed in part to dusting or address poisoning attacks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\">Address poisoning involves scammers sending small transactions from wallet addresses that resemble legitimate ones, duping users into copying the wrong address when making a transaction.<\/p>\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\">This has been made viable economically by the slump in network fees, making it cheaper to spam the network.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\"><em><strong>Related: <\/strong><\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/efforts-bulletproof-ethereum-paying-off-user0metrics\"><em><strong>Efforts to bulletproof Ethereum are paying off in user metrics<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\">\u201cIt\u2019s reasonable to conclude that the recent spike in Ethereum network activity is being materially driven by address poisoning campaigns,\u201d analysts at blockchain security firm Cyvers told Cointelegraph on Wednesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><template data-ct-widget=\"buzzsprout\" data-buzzsprout-podcast-id=\"2040516\" data-buzzsprout-episode-id=\"18518100\"><\/template><\/p>\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\">Cyvers\u2019 analysts said that behavioral classification and a statistical correlation \u201cstrongly suggest that address poisoning is not a marginal factor, but a significant contributor to the recent rise in Ethereum transaction volume.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Ethereum still king for asset tokenization<\/h2>\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\">Regardless of the spurious activity, Ethereum \u201cremains the preferred blockchain for on-chain assets,\u201d ARK Invest <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/crypto-market-28-trillion-by-2030-ark-invest\">reported on Wednesday<\/a>.
