{"id":58955,"date":"2026-01-08T09:56:26","date_gmt":"2026-01-08T02:56:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hbbgroup.net\/wyoming-rolls-out-state-backed-frnt-stablecoin-to-the-public\/"},"modified":"2026-01-08T09:56:26","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T02:56:26","slug":"wyoming-rolls-out-state-backed-frnt-stablecoin-to-the-public","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hbbgroup.net\/vi\/wyoming-rolls-out-state-backed-frnt-stablecoin-to-the-public\/","title":{"rendered":"Wyoming rolls out state-backed FRNT stablecoin to the public"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-testid=\"html-renderer-container\">\n<p>Wyoming\u2019s Frontier Stable Token (FRNT), the first stablecoin issued by a US state, is now available to the public following delays caused by lingering regulatory hurdles.<\/p>\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\">The state\u2019s Governor Mark Gordon <a href=\"https:\/\/governor.wyo.gov\/news-releases\/wyoming-ushers-in-new-era-launches-first-of-its-kind-frontier-stable-token-for-public-purchase\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a> on Wednesday that it is \u201cthe first fiat-backed, fully-reserved stable token to be issued by a public entity in the United States.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/learn\/articles\/stablecoins-101-what-are-crypto-stablecoins-and-how-do-they-work\" rel target=\"_self\" title=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/learn\/articles\/stablecoins-101-what-are-crypto-stablecoins-and-how-do-they-work\">added that the token<\/a> would provide \u201ca cheaper, faster, and more transparent means of transacting,\u201d and would be \u201canother source of funding for our schools and can lower the taxpayer burden in our state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The token can <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/wyoming-frnt-stablecoin-visa-support-7-blockchains\">be bought<\/a> on the <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/learn\/articles\/centralized-vs-decentralized-crypto-exchanges\" rel target=\"_self\" title=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/learn\/articles\/centralized-vs-decentralized-crypto-exchanges\">crypto exchange Kraken<\/a> and is live on the <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/learn\/articles\/how-does-blockchain-work-everything-there-is-to-know\" rel target=\"_self\" title=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/learn\/articles\/how-does-blockchain-work-everything-there-is-to-know\">Solana blockchain<\/a>, but can be bridged to Arbitrum, Avalanche, Base, Ethereum, Optimism, and Polygon using the Stargate platform.<\/p>\n<figure>    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2026-01\/019b9b3c-3f09-7c40-bf9b-4583618ab102.png\" title><figcaption><em>Source: <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GovernorGordon\/status\/2008955653621207149\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GovernorGordon\/status\/2008955653621207149\"><em>Mark Gordon<\/em><\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\">The stablecoin can also be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesswire.com\/news\/home\/20260106109442\/en\/State-of-Wyoming-Debuts-%24FRNT-the-Nations-First-State-Issued-Stable-Token-with-Franklin-Templeton-Managed-Reserves\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">bought<\/a> through Rain, a Visa-powered, integrated card platform operating on the Avalanche blockchain.<\/p>\n<p>A growing number of countries and banks have flagged plans to launch or adopt stablecoins as the success of such <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/stablecoins-300-billion-market-cap-47-growth-ytd\" rel target=\"_self\" title=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/stablecoins-300-billion-market-cap-47-growth-ytd\">tokens has skyrocketed in the past year<\/a>. The Bank of North Dakota has also <a href=\"https:\/\/northdakotamonitor.com\/2025\/10\/08\/bank-of-north-dakota-to-launch-states-first-stablecoin-known-as-roughrider-coin\/?utm\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">announced<\/a> plans in November to launch a state-issued token, the Roughrider coin, with the first test expected sometime this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Stablecoin aims to cut bank fees<\/h2>\n<p>FRNT was designed by the seven-member <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/wyoming-commission-covered-stablecoin-sec\" rel target=\"_self\" title=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/wyoming-commission-covered-stablecoin-sec\">Wyoming Stable Token Commission<\/a> and is intended for both individual and institutional use.<\/p>\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\">It is fully backed by US dollars and short-duration US Treasurys and the interest income generated by the reserves is returned to the state, the Governor\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n<p>Converse County Treasurer Joel Schell said that another key benefit of adopting FRNT is the lower fees associated with transfers compared to credit card processing costs.<\/p>\n<figure>    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2026-01\/019b9b3c-4462-7217-ae11-4a7d4dea01ff.png\" title><figcaption><em>Source: <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/wyostable\/status\/2008947849221054731\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/x.com\/wyostable\/status\/2008947849221054731\"><em>Wyoming Stable Token Commission<\/em><\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\">FRNT <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/wyostable\/status\/2008947847509758286\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">allows<\/a> dollar-denominated peer-to-peer transactions with fast settlement times, round-the-clock availability, and fees of roughly $0.01.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Related:\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/solana-stablecoin-market-cap-surge-900m-24-hours\"><em><strong>Solana&#8217;s stablecoin market cap surges by $900M in 24 hours<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\">\u201cThe county is like any other business \u2014 we take credit cards, but we can&#8217;t raise registration fees and property taxes to absorb the processing costs, so we send those costs directly to the customers,\u201d Schell said.<\/p>\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\">\u201cLast year, my office took in about $3.4 million in credit card transactions, which cost our constituents about $70,000 in fees that our processors collected. We&#8217;re anxious to get out of that climate and to move into something else. Electronic payments, especially the stable token, would let us get more efficient.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>FRNT scaling throughout 2026<\/h2>\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\">Wyoming\u2019s Stable Token Commission plans to scale FRNT throughout 2026 by onboarding additional resale partners, deploying the token across other state agencies, and working with public entities interested in launching their own stablecoins.<\/p>\n<p>The commission <a href=\"https:\/\/stabletoken.wyo.gov\/pages\/FRNT\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/stabletoken.wyo.gov\/pages\/FRNT\">conducts<\/a> quarterly assessments of new blockchains for potential FRNT deployment.
