{"id":57969,"date":"2025-12-29T09:33:31","date_gmt":"2025-12-29T02:33:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hbbgroup.net\/most-crypto-treasuries-will-disappear-amid-bleak-2026-outlook-execs\/"},"modified":"2025-12-29T09:33:31","modified_gmt":"2025-12-29T02:33:31","slug":"most-crypto-treasuries-will-disappear-amid-bleak-2026-outlook-execs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hbbgroup.net\/vi\/most-crypto-treasuries-will-disappear-amid-bleak-2026-outlook-execs\/","title":{"rendered":"Most crypto treasuries \u2018will disappear\u2019 amid bleak 2026 outlook: Execs"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-testid=\"html-renderer-container\">\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\">Digital asset treasury (DAT) companies face a grim future heading into 2026, with shares in many of the largest players sharply down, industry executives say.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoing into the next year, I think that the outlook for DATs is looking a bit bleak,\u201d Altan Tutar, co-founder and CEO of crypto yield platform MoreMarkets, told Cointelegraph.<\/p>\n<p>Large numbers of <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/learn\/articles\/metaplanet-vs-strategy\">crypto treasury companies<\/a> emerged in 2025 to give Wall Street investors another avenue to access cryptocurrencies. The share prices of many initially shot up as heavyweight investors poured in billions as Bitcoin (<a href=\"http:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/bitcoin-price\">BTC<\/a>) rose to a peak in October, but a <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/crypto-market-cap-8-month-low-more-pain-ahead-ana\">broad crypto market decline<\/a> has since hurt their valuations.<\/p>\n<p>With the market <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/crypto-treasuries-risk-50-downside-pipe-selling-pressure-cryptoquant\">increasingly crowded<\/a>, Tutar predicted the herd will thin out dramatically.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost Bitcoin treasury companies will disappear with the rest of the DATs,\u201d he predicted.<\/p>\n<p>Tutar said crypto treasuries focused on altcoins \u201cwill be the first to go\u201d as they won\u2019t be able to sustain their company\u2019s market value above the value of their crypto holdings, a key metric to investors called mNAV.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI suspect that the flagship DATs for large assets like Ethereum, Solana, and XRP will follow that way pretty quickly too,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<figure>    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2025-12\/019b4d79-3e13-7899-bed5-7a3a497fad9b.png\" title><figcaption><em>Altan Tutar (pictured) says the outlook for crypto treasury companies is bleak going into 2026. Source: <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Aeml7-PDakQ\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Aeml7-PDakQ\"><em>YouTube<\/em><\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>However, Tutar said the crypto-buying companies most likely to win are those providing additional value besides their large stash, such as offering products that \u201cprovide strong, consistent returns on their holdings, and pass them on to stakeholders.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Yield strategies needed to survive downturn<\/h2>\n<p>Ryan Chow, the co-founder of the Bitcoin platform Solv Protocol, told Cointelegraph that the number of companies buying and holding Bitcoin grew from 70 at the start of 2025 to over 130 by the middle of the year.<\/p>\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\">Chow said that a Bitcoin treasury \u201cisn\u2019t a one-stop solution to infinite dollar growth\u201d and also tipped that many are \u201cunlikely to survive the next downturn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose that do will be the ones that treat their Bitcoin holdings as part of a broader yield strategy rather than a temporary hold of value,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<figure>    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2025-12\/019b4d79-4adf-71ad-b1e4-449fd6aa0d7c.png\" title><figcaption><em>Ryan Chow Source: <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_h3t3i55U2c\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_h3t3i55U2c\"><em>YouTube<\/em><\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Chow said the crypto treasury companies that saw the biggest wins in 2025 were those that used \u201con-chain instruments to generate sustainable yield, or collateralized assets for access to liquidity during market drawdowns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\"><em><strong>Related: <\/strong><\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/bitcoin-dips-85k-dats-mnav-rollercoaster\"><em><strong>Bitcoin dips below $85K as DATs face \u2018mNAV rollercoaster\u2019<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The types of crypto treasuries that fared worse, and which have <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/ethzilla-liquidates-ether-redeem-convertible-debt\">had to sell their crypto<\/a> to cover business costs, are those that \u201ctreated accumulation as a marketing narrative without a proper treasury framework to support it,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe model needs to evolve from speculative to structured financial management,\u201d Chow said. \u201cTreasury holders need to go beyond just holding Bitcoin and think about actively managing it as digital capital within a transparent, yield-generating system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><template data-ct-widget=\"buzzsprout\" data-buzzsprout-podcast-id=\"2040516\" data-buzzsprout-episode-id=\"18190687\"><\/template><\/p>\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\">Vincent Chok, the CEO of stablecoin issuer First Digital, told Cointelegraph that Bitcoin treasury companies that are successful \u201chave conscientious allocation strategies, operational liquidity, and treat Bitcoin as only one component of their financial plan.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Treasuries should link with TradFi to compete with ETFs<\/h2>\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\">Chok said that investors are turning to crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs) instead as an easy way to get \u201cregulated price exposure\u201d to digital assets.<\/p>\n<figure>    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2025-12\/019b4d79-513f-7641-8cca-05beb7d96ce1.jpg\" title><figcaption><em>Vincent Chok tells Cointelegraph that crypto treasury companies need to match traditional finance expectations.
