{"id":57959,"date":"2025-12-29T09:33:33","date_gmt":"2025-12-29T02:33:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hbbgroup.net\/ubisoft-halts-rainbow-six-siege-after-hackers-give-each-player-13-3m-credits\/"},"modified":"2025-12-29T09:33:33","modified_gmt":"2025-12-29T02:33:33","slug":"ubisoft-halts-rainbow-six-siege-after-hackers-give-each-player-13-3m-credits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hbbgroup.net\/vi\/ubisoft-halts-rainbow-six-siege-after-hackers-give-each-player-13-3m-credits\/","title":{"rendered":"Ubisoft halts Rainbow Six Siege after hackers give each player $13.3M credits"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-testid=\"html-renderer-container\">\n<p>French video gaming giant Ubisoft has been forced to halt the live services of Rainbow Six Siege after hackers breached the game and dished out 2 billion in-game credits to every player.<\/p>\n<p>The exploit was initially <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Rainbow6Game\/status\/2004917731829948808\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">confirmed<\/a> by the team via X on Dec. 27, with a series of updates following, ultimately leading to a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Rainbow6Game\/status\/2004943312390926740\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">suspension<\/a> of the game\u2019s servers and marketplace the following day.<\/p>\n<p>Reports from players on social media indicate that hackers were able to take control of the major parts of the game\u2019s online systems, with players <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Terdsta\/status\/2004887399890129325\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">reporti<\/a>ng that everyone was receiving 2 billion in-game R6 credits upon logging in, alongside rare items such as skins and guns.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\">Meanwhile, the hackers also got control of the game\u2019s messaging and banning systems, according to screenshots <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Pirat_Nation\/status\/2004901721336590703\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">shared<\/a> by players.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With the game selling 15,000 R6 credits for $99.99 a pop, players would have to spend\u00a0roughly $13.33 million to accrue 2 billion points.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In an X post on Dec. 28, the Rainbow Six Siege team announced that it was working on a reversal of in-game credits received after 11 AM UTC time.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA rollback is currently ongoing and afterwards, extensive quality control tests will be executed to ensure the integrity of accounts and effectiveness of changes,\u201d the team said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlease know that this matter is being handled with extreme care and therefore, timing cannot be guaranteed. More information on the rollback and full live relaunch to come,\u201d the team said on X.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Rainbow Six is a major franchise under the Ubisoft umbrella, with its Siege title having a daily average of over 34,000 active players in December according to <a href=\"https:\/\/activeplayer.io\/tom-clancys-rainbow-six-siege\/\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">data<\/a> from Active Player.<\/p>\n<p><template data-ct-widget=\"buzzsprout\" data-buzzsprout-podcast-id=\"2040516\" data-buzzsprout-episode-id=\"18384699\"><\/template><\/p>\n<p>The team\u2019s ability to rescind in-game currency transactions would not be possible if the game utilized genuinely decentralized cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ether.
