BlackRock\u2019s Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) by over 250% in the third quarter after the Ivy League school first bought into the fund earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Harvard Management Company, the business that manages the university\u2019s $57 billion endowment fund, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/1082621\/000119312525283114\/xslForm13F_X02\/47098.xml\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> in a regulatory filing on Friday that it held over 6.8 million shares in the iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) worth $442.8 million as of Sept. 30.<\/p>\n<p>The university <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/harvard-endowment-blackrock-bitcoin-etf\">disclosed in August<\/a> that it had a position IBIT for the first time, holding around 1.9 million shares then worth $116.6 million.<\/p>\n<h2>\u201cSuper rare\u201d for a university to buy ETF<\/h2>\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\">Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/EricBalchunas\/status\/1989493893742657785\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a> on Friday that it is \u201csuper rare\/difficult to get an endowment to bite on an ETF.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s as good a validation as an ETF can get,\u201d he added, but noted Harvard\u2019s IBIT investment was \u201ca mere 1% of total endowment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/learn\/articles\/blackrocks-bitcoin-etf\">IBIT<\/a> was Harvard\u2019s largest investment on its filing and was its \u201cbiggest position increase in Q3,\u201d now ranking it as the 16th-largest holder of the ETF, according to Balchunas.<\/p>\n<figure>    <img decoding=\"async\" Harvard\u2019s initial <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/blackrock-s-most-profitable-etf-is-now-a-hair-away-from-100b\">IBIT buy<\/a> that endowments \u201care notably anti-ETF\u201d and the \u201chardest institution to hook\u201d when it comes to ETFs.<\/p>\n<h2>Harvard increases gold, tech exposure<\/h2>\n<p>The remainder of Harvard\u2019s investments were primarily in major US technology companies, including Amazon, Meta, Microsoft and Alphabet, Google\u2019s parent company.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Related: <\/strong><\/em><a exec<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The university also bought a new $16.8 million position in the buy-now, pay-later <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/learn\/articles\/open-finance-vs-decentralized-finance\">fintech<\/a> Klarna and $59.1 million worth of shares in the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company.<\/p>\n<p>Harvard also nearly doubled its exposure to gold, boosting its share ownership in the <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/gold-worst-day-decade-wipes-2-5-trillion-bitcoin-dips\">gold-backed ETF<\/a>, SPDR Gold Shares (GLD), to 661,391 shares worth $235.1 million, up from its 333,000 share holdings in August.<\/p>\n<p>SoSoValue <a href=\"https:\/\/sosovalue.com\/assets\/etf\/us-btc-spot\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">shows<\/a> Bitcoin (<a href=\"http:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/bitcoin-price\">BTC<\/a>) ETFs saw net outflows of $1.11 billion in the trading week ending on Friday, as the price of Bitcoin fell below $100,000.<\/p>\n<p>Bitcoin is now trading under $95,000 after falling to a low of $93,029 in the past 24 hours, which <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/bitcoin-briefly-falls-below-2025-entry-point\">briefly erased the gains<\/a> it had made so far this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Magazine: <\/strong><\/em><a
