ISTANBUL — Recent turmoil in the Middle East makes predicting what might happen next more than usually difficult. Just a few weeks ago, the U.S. followed Israeli airstrikes against Iran with its own, and then brokered a ceasefire between the two adversaries.
One thing seems certain, however: Israel and Turkey will remain the main players in the region’s evolving geopolitics. While other regional powers, notably Saudi Arabia, remain important, Israel and Turkey wield significantly greater influence in military, diplomatic and security realms.
