SEOUL — Samsung Electronics has won a $16.5 billion deal to supply chips for Tesla by the end of 2033, ending its long struggle to win major customers in the contract chipmaking sector.
Samsung announced the agreement on Monday in a filing with South Korea’s stock exchange operator. The company cited confidentiality in declining to name the customer, describing it only as a “big global company.” But Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed it on his X account hours later. Samsung shares jumped on the news.
