LONDON — The British government unveiled the results of a long-awaited “China Audit” earlier this week, but experts said it failed to address worries about espionage and political interference and, instead, marked a capitulation to Beijing in return for trade and investment.
The Labour government launched the audit into the U.K.-China relationship late last year, making good on an election campaign promise. There were hopes it would release a report that would shed light on spying and sabotage allegations leveled at Beijing and recommend ways to mitigate such infringement.
