Trump is ‘vehicle’ for post-liberal backlash: political theorist

WASHINGTON — The rise of free market economics and the expansion of social liberation have sparked a backlash that U.S. President Donald Trump tapped into in his rise to power, said Patrick Deneen, professor of political theory at the University of Notre Dame.

Deneen is the author of “Why Liberalism Failed,” which has won praise from former President Barack Obama. Vice President JD Vance has cited Deneen as a major intellectual influence.
