TOKYO — Japan is experiencing a shortage of bilingual guides to meet the waves of international tourists visiting the country, as the COVID-19 pandemic pushed many guides into retirement or career changes.
“We’ve had to reschedule tours or cancel them altogether because we couldn’t secure guides, and we’re so sorry we couldn’t offer service on the dates and times customers wanted,” said an official from a major travel agency.
