SEOUL — South Korea’s new leader has returned from his diplomatic debut abroad, which his office touted as the realization of his “national interest-based, pragmatic” brand of foreign policy.
President Lee Jae Myung early this week took part in the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, his first overseas trip since taking office on June 4. He and other world leaders did not realize their pressing goal of getting in-person meetings with U.S. President Donald Trump, as the American leader departed Canada early, saying he needed to return to Washington to attend to urgent matters related to the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel.
