TOKYO — Nippon Steel’s CEO said the acquisition of U.S. Steel ensures management flexibility and profitability as the two steelmakers begin the integration process some 18 months after the deal was first announced.
“This agreement is the result of the alignment of our goal of expanding our business in the U.S. and the U.S. government’s goal of revitalizing the manufacturing industry, including from the perspective of countering China,” Eiji Hashimoto, the Japanese company’s CEO, told reporters on Thursday.
