        "rendered": "<div>\n<div>\n<h4 color=\"#333\">In brief<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Digital assets will have a transformative impact on U.K. financial markets, said Economic Secretary to the Treasury Lucy Rigby.<\/li>\n<li>She highlighted their improvements to efficiencies including quicker capital flows.<\/li>\n<li>Rigby pointed to the need to \u201cminimize frictions\u201d between the U.K. and U.S. regulatory regimes for digital assets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>Digital assets have the potential to effect sweeping changes on U.K. financial markets, according to Lucy Rigby, Economic Secretary to the Treasury.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the <i>Financial Times<\/i> Digital Assets Summit, Rigby said that digital assets offer benefits including \u201cefficiencies generally, but also just everything happening much more speedily.\u201d She added that it\u2019s important to consider \u201cwhat that actually means for business,\u201d including quicker capital flows and \u201ccapital being freed up for other things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More broadly, Rigby argued, digital assets have \u201cthe potential for complete transformation of our markets, and that goes beyond efficiencies,\u201d noting that the Treasury has to \u201cwork very closely with industry, with regulators, and give some proper thought to exactly how digital assets do transform our financial markets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her comments come as the King\u2019s Speech introduces an <a href=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/media\/6a046665c0cc74b4523e4d3b\/The_King_s_Speech_2026_-_background_briefing_notes.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Enhancing Financial Services Bill<\/a>, which Rigby noted \u201ccontains major reforms that are going to drive growth in our financial services sector.\u201d They include provisions that seek to \u201cmodernise how the sector is regulated,\u201d highlighting the need to ensure that the \u201cadministrative burden on firms is proportionate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Within the digital assets sector, Rigby pointed to the FCA and Bank of England\u2019s upcoming <a href=\"http:\/\/decrypt.co\/?post_type=post&#038;p=5761\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer\"><span>stablecoin<\/span><\/a> legislation, with the portal allowing for authorizations set to open \u201clater this year.\u201d She also highlighted the <a href=\"https:\/\/decrypt.co\/359123\/uk-selects-firms-stablecoin-regulatory-sandbox-revolut\" target=\"_blank\">stablecoin regulatory sandbox<\/a> launched by the FCA earlier this year, with four firms who are \u201ckeen to get a GBP stablecoin out there,\u201d as well as the imminent publication of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/uk-fintech-backed-to-embrace-future-payments-technology\" target=\"_blank\">consultation<\/a> inviting the payments sector to provide feedback on a \u201csingle, coherent framework for both traditional and tokenised payments\u201d including stablecoins and tokenized deposits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is really about streamlining regulation in the payment space,\u201d she said, encompassing both stablecoins and <a href=\"https:\/\/decrypt.co\/resources\/what-are-ai-agents-how-autonomous-programs-are-transforming-cryptocurrency\" target=\"_blank\">AI agents<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Economic Secretary also pointed to the need to \u201cminimize frictions\u201d between the U.K. and U.S. regulatory regimes for digital assets, adding that it \u201cmay well take the form of some forms of recognition or alignment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rigby added that digital assets are set to be a feature of the U.K.\u2019s financial landscape, saying, \u201cI&#8217;m pretty clear that&#8217;s what the future looks like.
