        "rendered": "<div data-testid=\"html-renderer-container\">\n<p>The Bitcoin (<a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/bitcoin-price\">BTC<\/a>) network mining difficulty, the relative computing challenge of adding a new block to the ledger, increased slightly to 148.2 trillion in the last adjustment of 2025 and is projected to rise again in January 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The next Bitcoin difficulty adjustment is projected to occur on January 8, 2026, at block height 931,392 and is expected to raise the <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/learn\/articles\/bitcoin-mining-difficulty-explained\">network mining difficulty<\/a> to 149 trillion, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coinwarz.com\/mining\/bitcoin\/difficulty-chart\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">CoinWarz<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Average block times are about 9.95 minutes at the time of this writing, slightly below the 10-minute target, meaning that difficulty will likely increase to get block times closer to the target.<\/p>\n<figure>    <img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Mining, Bitcoin Mining\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2025-12\/019b6665-7191-706e-aeb4-3be88b341266.png\" title><figcaption><em>The Bitcoin mining difficulty history from 2014-2025.
