Labs says it is investing up to $75 million in decentralized finance projects that could support institutional adoption.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The firm shared its announcement via X on Wednesday, saying the fund will support projects with \u201cinnovative value\u201d propositions that can scale to support large-scale adoption.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe initiative will target blockchain projects building dark-pool perpetual DEXs, decentralized money markets, and fixed-income or yield-bearing asset products, [&#8230;]\u00a0areas the firm believes are poised for major growth as crypto liquidity continues its structural migration onchain,\u201d DWF Labs said.<\/p>\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\">As part of the announcement, <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/genius-act-legitimizes-stablecoins-institutional-adoption\">DWF Labs managing partner<\/a> Andrei Grachev emphasized the importance of building DeFi infrastructure \u201cwith real utility\u201d that can <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/defi-lending-rises-72-institutional-rwa-collateral-adoption\">support institutional demand<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\">\u201cDeFi is entering its institutional phase,\u201d he said, adding: \u201cWe\u2019re seeing real demand for infrastructure that can handle size, protect order flow, and generate sustainable yield.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The fund will focus on projects built across Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain and Solana, as well as Coinbase\u2019s such as \u201cTVL and crypto liquidity provisioning, hands-on go-to-market strategy and execution support,\u201d access to partnered exchanges, market makers, infrastructure providers and institutions in crypto.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>DeFi\u2019s future potential\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\">At the time of writing, there is currently over $120 billion worth of total value locked across all DeFi projects as per DefiLlama <a href=\"https:\/\/defillama.com\/\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">data<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p 2026<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It reached its peak back in \u201cDeFi Summer\u201d of 2021, at around $175 billion, and also recently almost climbed back to that high again last month, after circling $166 billion before the <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/market-crash-no-long-term-fundamental-implications\">Oct. 10 market crash<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Despite DeFi initially being a niche area designed as a decentralized alternative to traditional finance, some believe that centralized institutions will play a key role in helping the sector go mainstream.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><template data-ct-widget=\"buzzsprout\" data-buzzsprout-podcast-id=\"2040516\" data-buzzsprout-episode-id=\"18230177\"><\/template><\/p>\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\">Speaking with MN Capital founder Micha\u00ebl van de Poppe in a video published to YouTube on Tuesday,<a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/defi-global-adoption-regulation-institutional-funds-chainlink-founder\"> Chainlink co-founder<\/a> Sergey Nazarov said that \u201cI think we\u2019re about 30% of the way there.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\">Nazarov predicted DeFi to hit 50% mass adoption when the regulatory climate is clear, and 70% when the infrastructure and technology are simple and efficient enough for institutions to tip their capital and client funds into
