It started the year at $93,507.<\/p>\n<p>It has since rebounded to around $94,209, CoinGecko <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coingecko.com\/en\/coins\/bitcoin\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">data <\/a>shows. <\/p>\n<figure>    <img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Investments, US Government, Donald Trump, Bitcoin ETF\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2025-11\/019a8f00-b33e-776d-8dc2-7f016cdffe73\" title><figcaption><em>Bitcoin\u2019s price information, including the change in price since Jan. 1, 2025. Source: <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.coingecko.com\/en\/coins\/bitcoin\" rel=\"https:\/\/www.coingecko.com\/en\/coins\/bitcoin\" target=\"https:\/\/www.coingecko.com\/en\/coins\/bitcoin\" title=\"https:\/\/www.coingecko.com\/en\/coins\/bitcoin\"><em>CoinGecko<\/em><\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This year was tipped to be a strong one for the crypto markets after US President Donald Trump was inaugurated on Jan. 20 and formed the most <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/sec-chair-paul-atkins-lax-enforcement-crypto\">pro-crypto administration<\/a> to date, which has followed through on most of his promises.<\/p>\n<p>Regulatory momentum under the Trump administration has been accompanied by an explosion in corporate <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/chinese-bitcoin-treasury-firm-may-sell-500-million-shares-btc\">Bitcoin treasury adoption<\/a> and more inflows into the <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/bitcoin-not-overbought-bitwise-predicts-etf-surge\">spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><template data-ct-widget=\"buzzsprout\" data-buzzsprout-podcast-id=\"2040516\" data-buzzsprout-episode-id=\"18190687\"><\/template><\/p>\n<p>However, Trump\u2019s war on tariffs and the US government shutdown \u2014 the latter of which <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/sec-cftc-operations-government-shutdown\">ended on Thursday<\/a> after a record 43 days \u2014 have contributed to multiple double-digit Bitcoin price pullbacks throughout the year.<\/p>\n<h2>Bitcoin whales have also slowed price rallies<\/h2>\n<p>Another key catalyst seen behind Bitcoin\u2019s price slump has been OG Bitcoiners and whales selling off portions of their holdings, compressing upside even in light of <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/czech-national-bank-tests-bitcoin-crypto-reserve-historic-buy\">positive industry developments.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, Glassnode analysts last week said the \u201cOG Whales Dumping\u201d Bitcoin <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/bitcoin-whales-selling-could-mean-late-cycle\">narrative isn\u2019t as strong<\/a> as it is made out to be, explaining that it is \u201cnormal bull-market behaviour,\u201d particularly during the late stages of bull runs.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThis steady rise reflects increasing distribution pressure from older investor cohorts \u2014 a pattern typical of late-cycle profit-taking, not a sudden exodus of whales.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em><strong>Related: <\/strong><\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/peter-schiff-strategy-model-fraud-saylor-debate\"><em><strong>Peter Schiff calls Strategy&#8217;s model &#8216;fraud,&#8217; challenges Saylor to debate<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Bitcoin isn\u2019t alone \u2014 Ether (<a href=\"http:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/ethereum-price\">ETH<\/a>) and Solana (<a href=\"http:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/solana-price-index\">SOL<\/a>) are down <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coingecko.com\/en\/coins\/ethereum\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">7.95%<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coingecko.com\/en\/coins\/solana\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">28.3%<\/a> respectively from the start of 2025, while most altcoins have been hit even harder.<\/p>\n<h2>Four-year cycle thesis still not in effect, analyst says<\/h2>\n<p>Industry analysts are also speculating whether the four-year cycle thesis remains in effect, despite the crypto markets having far more institutional and regulatory backing compared to earlier market cycles.<\/p>\n<p>Bitwise chief investment officer Matt Hougan is one of a few analysts who believe Bitcoin will boom in 2026 due to the \u201cdebasement trade\u201d thesis playing out, while the broader markets will benefit from <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/crypto-fundamentals-strong-despite-market-rout\">increased adoption<\/a> in stablecoin, tokenization and decentralized finance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the underlying fundamentals are just so sound,\u201d Hougan said last Wednesday.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI just think those are too big to keep down.
