TOKYO — A tsunami warning in Japan on Wednesday disrupted road, rail and air traffic, and factories were forced to halt operations, even as the country is busy with international tourists during the summer holiday season.
The warning was issued for a swath of the Pacific coast on Japan’s main island of Honshu and Hokkaido, the largest northern island, following a magnitude 8.7 earthquake off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula. The Japan Meteorological Agency warned of possible tsunamis up to 3 meters high.
