SINGAPORE — From a branch in the trees, a red-shanked douc monkey launches himself into the air, flashing orange pantaloons, gray sleeves and crisp white cuffs. One minute he is nestled high above us; the next, he is scampering at a startling pace toward my friend. I react instinctively, pulling her away as the douc ambles past, settling 5 meters away, legs splayed, his double coconut-shaped white scrotum giving the illusion that he is wearing bloomers.
